We have been serving grilled eel since 1969. Our sauce is made with the same recipe that it has been since we opened our doors. Locals love our restaurant. Besides eel, we also serve wild boar and deer caught by the chef, who is also a hunter, as well as wild sweetfish. Our meals are served with Mineasahi rice grown by local farmers. Sansai vegetables appear on our menu in the spring, as do mushrooms in the fall. We also host parties.

Restaurant Genki-Tei serves dishes prepared with yumetororo—a type of mountain yam that’s a local specialty of Asahi. Enjoy the unique flavor and sticky texture of mountain yam. The restaurant also uses locally grown Mineasahi rice, whose small grain size and sweet taste set it apart from other varieties of rice. Aside from mountain yam, Genki-Tei also serves Mikawa beef cooked on a smokeless grill. Give it a try! As for souvenirs, gohei-mochi made with homemade miso is a popular choice.

This 120-year-old building was relocated to the edge of the river, and now serves as a restaurant. Diners can enjoy gohei-mochi and seasonal dishes—sansai vegetables in the spring, sweetfish in the summer, mountain yam in the autumn, and boar hot pot in the winter. If you’re not a big fan of river fish and wild game, the restaurant also serves fresh fish straight from the market and the Oku-Mikawa region’s very own Horai beef. Have a casual teishoku set meal, or savor a full-course kaiseki meal in a tatami room. Koshikake Sanso isn’t just a restaurant—it also offers trout fishing, barbecue, and overnight lodging.
