Takororin Lantern Festival is a special summer event in the Asuke area, when cylindrical lanterns known as “tankororin” line the streets and set the historical Asuke Townscape aglow. Mini concerts take place at various spots along the street, including guitar, shamisen, and rakugo storytelling performances.

    About Tankororin

Tankororin are cylindrical enclosed lanterns made from bamboo baskets and Japanese washi paper. Every year in August, tankororin line the streets of Asuke Townscape (about 1.5 km) and the light shining through the paper brightens up the dark streets, creating a romantic atmosphere on summer evenings.
