    An Asuke summer highlight

The Asuke Summer Festival takes place in Toyota's famous town of Asuke and its gorgeous Korankei Gorge with the origin believed to lie in the old Asuke Gion Festival.
When the Asuke area's Gion Festival began is uncertain, but an inscription inside one of Hon-machi's (Hon Town's) paper lanterns used during the festival reads "1857", meaning the traditional festival has been held since at least that date. In the present day, each of Asuke's districts host vendor booths decorated with paper lanterns, sealing the deal for splendid summer evening in this retro townscape.
